Trust

"It would be nicer, if those sweet possibilities, that dreamy anticipation you have when you're fifteen or twenty or twenty-five, even, and you know that the most perfect person in the world might walk into your shop or office or friend's party at any moment... it would be nicer if all that was still around somewhere, in a back pocket or a bottom drawer. But it's all gone, I think, and that's enough to make anyone cross."

I really loved Nick Hornby's "High Fidelity". I have many favourite quotes. And I marked this one as well, thinking, "Damn, he's right. Or at least there's something in it".

But, wait a minute - this time he's not right.

Why is it gone? Because one let it go. Whilst life is full of endless and beautiful possibilities and it's important to remember about it. In fact, a chance to meet somebody special is in every minute of our life, if we want it to be there. The only thing we should do, is ask and receive. It's about opening our arms and getting ready. It's about trust. And knowing, and keeping in mind!, what great people we are. It's about creating a feeling inside ourselves: "I deserve the best". It's about having an image in front of our eyes not of what we do not want, but of what we truly want. It's not about having a nervous look around every time we go out on the streets, thinking: "Where is he? Where is he?!". It's about enjoying our life, every day of it, enjoying things we like doing, we love doing. Enjoying being and finding ourselves again in this world. Finding an answer to: who am I know and what do I tryly want? And it doesn't matter what age we are because even if we're twenty or thirty or forty, there still are those "sweet possibilities" because life is magical and beautiful.

Well, we cannot forget that it's Rob talking, Hornby's character, and that is the way he feels.

It's not necessarly a truth in itself, but i wouldn't say that that is the point of the book or Hornby. The real beauty of that book, imo, is that it shows what everyone sometimes thinks or reflects when we're down or sad.

Of course he's not right....but there are moments we do feel like that. It's up to us to keep offering proof that everything is still possible.

I didn't say that it's the point of the whole book, Gonc. I just commented a single quote because it made me think about those things...
