Messages from the past

It is funny to run across cards and letters from the past. They have been sent by people who once cared about you (and it seems not that long ago!) whilst now they do not even exist in your life. It is funny that sometimes you can even smile or laugh when reading one of the jokes from ten years before, and other times you cannot even remember the person who sent you that card from Berlin in 2005. Sometimes you still feel that warm and beautiful connection you have once had with a certain person (but not anymore) and think whether there is any chance that you could win it back somehow. Write an e-mail? "Hey, I've just read the card you sent me for my 18th birthday, can we be friends again?". Pathetic. Impossible. Once you have already accepted the changes, though, there is a positive side to it all - those words make you smile and evoke warmth in your heart. Perhaps this is the warmth from the past which is never going to come back but - still - it is real. And you can try to say gratefully: "Thank you for appearing in my life. I wish you all the best."
