Opportunity

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."

~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Of course it all is just symbolic. The 31st looks exactly the same as any other day - the sun rises, and then the night begins, then the sun rises again. Nothing special. As Hamilton Wright Mabie said "New Year's Eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted." It's people who made it this way, the night of loud parties, music, fun and fireworks... And usually, those parties are kind of forced, thus not very jolly. The guy quoted above, however, added also: "... and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights". I think that no matter how hard people try not to, they sense "something" special that night.

I hope that on the 31st of December you will feel a great opportunity to make your life even better. Quoting after Oprah Winfrey, "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right!". Just, you know, new dreams, new plans, new ideas... One can aks: can't I find this opportunity every day? Ah, you know you can, and you must be pretty happy man if you do. But I think the point of the whole New Year's Eve thing is that... subconsciousness likes rituals. ;-)

All the best for you in 2009, and the following years as well, my friends!

And yes, New Year's Eve is also a nice occasion to try... Martini Asti. ;-)
